The Archaeological Park of Larino includes a building that was once used as a stable by Villa Zappone. It was built in the early 1900s by Filomeno Zappone, a local lawyer, to serve his residence.
Archaeological excavations, between 2006 and 2007, revealed a Roman sewer system beneath the stable floors that fed the waters of the nearby thermal baths. Additionally, beautifully conserved flooring was found, with mosaics featuring marine decorations.
Inside the stables is an area with a drinking trough for horses and a chestnut wardrobe used to keep saddles. The initials of the villa’s owner FZ can be seen on the wardrobe along with scenes of daily life. The building is now used as a cultural centre and hosts art and photography exhibitions and book presentations.
