The Cathedral of San Donato Val di Comino (province of Frosinone) is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and Pope Marcellus I (308-309 BCE) which suggests that it has very ancient origins, dating between early Christianity and the early Middle Ages.
A series of renovations in the 1700s created a cathedral layout for the church and its present-day Baroque elegance: the structure was elongated and the façade was embellished with pilaster strips, columns and a central mixtilinear tympanum. The interior has a particularly interesting reed organ, attributed by some experts to Cesare II Catarinozzi, the “Stradivarius of the organ”.
