The monumental entrance to the Tresigallo Sports Centre in Tresignana (Ferrara) – a municipality established in 2019 with the merger of Tresigallo and Formignana – melds with the facades of the surrounding buildings to create a backdrop of the perfect “urban social hub”.
The Rationalist triumphal arch, proposed here, is a reappropriation of the Romanesque architectural element, much favoured by the Fascist regime. It provided the town with a new gate flanked by a connecting portal, later demolished, and the school. Made of travertine marble, without any decoration, it overlooks the “field of heroic challenges”.
The place also had a social function, as it housed the caretaker’s apartment.
