The doge's complex of Villa Manin in Passariano di Codroipo (Udine) is one of the most significant artistic monuments in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Construction began in the 2nd half of the 1600s, but its current appearance is the result of renovation in the 18th century. The complex also includes the Baroque Chapel of Sant'Andrea.
The central body of the villa is preceded by two spectacular squares designed by the architect Domenico Rossi: piazza Quadra (1707) and piazza Tonda (1718), enclosed by exedras reminiscent of the colonnade of St. Peter’s in the Vatican.
Designed in about 1750 by Giorgio Massari, the upper floor (the "belvedere") has five windows in the front and the back where it overlooks the park, and is topped by a tympanum that lifts the façade upwards. The decorative statues of the villa, the barchesse and the courtyard of honour all date to the same period. The villa includes 18 hectares of parkland open to the public which features centuries-old trees and allegorical statues.
