A charming and elegant town with a medieval layout and a richly frescoed castle, San Vito al Tagliamento (Pordenone) still conserves its medieval moat and three access towers.
Worthy of note are the lovely, elegant palazzi and religious monuments including the cathedral, a bona-fide art gallery given the wealth of canvases and frescoes; the Church of Santa Maria dei Battuti, a Friulian Renaissance jewel which conserves splendid frescoes by Pomponio Amalteo; and the Church of the Annunciation with a late 14th century fresco cycle. The small Italian-style theatre “Giangiacomo Arrigoni” shows the influence of Venetian 18th century culture.
