The Rovereto Tobacco Factory (K.u.k. Tabakfabrik, Imperial Royal Manifattura d'Austria-Hungary, at the time of Austro-Hungarian domination) is located in the hamlet of Borgo Sacco.
The factory began activity in 1854: towards the end of the century, it employed more than a thousand workers, mainly women who were nicknamed zigherane. Today the factory hosts "Progetto Manifattura - Green Innovation Factory", an incubator for start-ups involved in eco-sustainable construction, renewable energy and environmental technology. The new, highly energy efficient buildings feature large spaces with ceilings up to 7 metres in height and can accommodate the most innovative companies.
