Description

Law n° 220 of 14 November 2016 “Disciplina del cinema e dell’audiovisivo” establishes the ‘Film and Audiovisual Fund’ aimed at funding works through tax credits, automatic contributions and selective contributions.

Selective contributions are granted by the DG Cinema of the Ministry of Culture for the writing, development and production of Italian film and audiovisual works.

The funding available for development of film, television and web products is €3,000,000, divided up as follows:

  • feature films: €1,650,000, divided between the 2sessions into €550,000 for each (a maximum of 15 projects will be granted funding at each session);
  • serial television and web products made for providers of audiovisual services via alternative means: €1,350,000, divided between the 2 sessions into €675,000 for each (a maximum of 8 projects will be granted funding at each session).

Requirements

  • Minimum spend in the territory:

    100% of the grant attributed for Italy

  • Legal headquarters in the European Economic Area;
  • Fiscal residency in Italy;
  • Unqualifiable as a non-European business;
  • Qualifiable as independent producer;
  • Ateco code 59.11 plus inscription in the ordinary section of Italy’s corporate registry, Registro delle imprese;
  • Possession of the rights to creatively develop the story, treatment and other artistic material.

Applications will be accepted from projects:

  • whose development cost is equal to or over €20,000;
  • for works with a running time of more than 52 minutes.

Payment schedule

The grant may be requested in one of two ways:

  • Within 90 days from publication of the grant awards, the beneficiary may request a 40% advance, with submission of the correct paperwork;
  • DGCA will disburse the advance within 30 days;
  • Within 30 days from disbursement of the advance, the beneficiary must present proof of payment for the writers of the story and screenplay;
  • Within 18 months from the publication of the grant awards, the beneficiary must present the final request for the grant, with submission of the correct paperwork;
  • DGCA disburses the remaining balance within 90 days.

Alternatively:

  • Within 18 months from the publication of the grant awards, the beneficiary may request the entire amount, on submission of the correct paperwork;
  • DGCA disburses the balance within 90 days.
