Description

The Italy-France Call for Proposals regulates the methods of distributing contributions to support the development and co-production of films and audio-visual series between Italy and France.

The Fund’s budget for 2024 is €1,000,000 (DGCA: €500,000 - CNC: €500,000), divided as follows:

  1. €300,000: development and pre-production of films and TV series
  2. €700,000: production of films

The contribution of DGCA is intended for projects whose majority and/or equal co-producers are Italian (although in exceptional cases, the contribution may be assigned to one or more minority Italian co-producers).

Requirements

Production: obligation to request Italian nationality.

The film projects must include at least one producer legally headquartered in France and one legally headquartered in Italy.

The project’s co-production quotas must meet the following characteristics:

  • for films: neither the French co-producer quota nor the Italian co-producer quota must be less than 20% or more than 80%;
  • for TV series: neither the French co-producer quota nor the Italian co-producer quota must be less than 30% or more than 70%.

Projects that involve third country co-producers are admissible if the French co-producer and the Italian co-producer hold the two majority quotas in the co-production.

Payment schedule

Development and pre-production

  1. no later than 90 days from the date of the decree approving the successful candidates, a request for 40% of the assigned contribution may be made
  2. no later than 30 days, DGCA disburses the advance
  3. no later than 30 days from disbursement of the advance, the beneficiary presents proof of payment to the writers of the screenplay
  4. no later than 24 months from the date of the decree approving the successful candidates, the beneficiary may request the balance of the contribution from DGCA using the DGCOL platform, upon presentation of the required documentation
  5. no later than 90 days, once all checks have been completed, DGCA disburses the balance

Production

  1. no earlier than 60 days from the start of principal photography and, in any case, no later than 12 months from the date of the decree approving the successful candidates, the beneficiary may request an advance equal to 60% of the contribution granted
  2. no later than 90 days, DGCA disburses the advance
  3. no later than 30 days from disbursement of the advance, the beneficiary presents proof of payment to the writers of the screenplay
  4. no later than 24 months from the date of the decree approving the successful candidates, the beneficiary may request the balance of the contribution and the definitive recognition of the project’s Italian nationality (this may be postponed only once, for 12 months) from DGCA using the DGCOL platform, upon presentation of the required documentation
  5. no later than 90 days, once all checks have been completed, DGCA disburses the balance
