Locations

This being an augmented reality game, to play, the user needs to be on the nuragic site of Palmavera, near Alghero. The gameplay is therefore tied to the location hosting the narrative. The nuragic town of Palmavera was actually destroyed by a fire, presumably at the end of the 18th century BC. In its place today is a rich archaeological site, bearing testimony to one of the most ancient civilisations in Italy. The two towers that can still be seen on the site are made from sandstone and limestone.

Plot

The official description reads: “The Last Inhabitants of Palmavera is an augmented reality game made to enrich visits to the nuragic town of Palmavera. By pointing their camera at the markers located all around the archaeological site, the user can talk to the ghosts of the people who lived their during the nuragic era. The last inhabitants of Palmavera are the ghosts of the men and women who lived there on the day the fire broke out. Some of them are aware of the fire as it rages, others continue to go about their daily lives. Each is tied to this world as a ghost with unfinished business of some sort. The player must listen to their pleas for help and do what they ask, so that their spirits may be freed. Each mission teaches the player something about life in a nuragic town 2,700 years ago”. The game was commissioned by the Municipality of Alghero.
