The 10th film in the famous saga about secret agent James Bond is one that helped to make Sardinia and the beautiful Emerald Coast famous all over the world.
Filming in Sardinia, where Bond and his colleague Anya go to find the base of scientist Karl Stromberg, took place between the end of August and September in 1976.
The place the two agents stay is actually the luxurious Hotel Cala di Volpe in Cala di Volpe Bay, which is located in Arzachena, in the north-eastern part of Sardinia, while the pier where they receive their car, a white Lotus Esprit S1, is that of Port Palau.
After finding Stromberg’s mysterious oil tanker, the high-octane pursuit of the agents by the scientist’s lackeys begins on the roads around Port Cervo, for which two Lotuses and a total of 24 cars were used. The chase ends with the car plunging into the sea from the hotel of the Hotel Pitrizza, which is when we discover that the car can turn into a submarine, re-emerging on Capriccioli Beach in the middle of a group of bathers. Other locations used for filming include Santa Teresa Gallura in the province of Sassari, San Pantaleo in the municipality of Olbia, and Capo Caccia in the municipality of Alghero.
