A young woman, Agata, takes the body of her stillborn daughter to a place in the mountains where it is believed that children can be brought back to life for just enough time to be baptized.
Laura Samani narrates a raw, dark story, inspired by a legend she discovered about her native land, Carnia in Northern Italy. An ancient legend holds that it is possible to wake stillborn children at the Santuario della Madonna di Trava, in Lauco (Friuli Venezia Giulia) for a fleeting moment, enough time for them to be baptized and therefore avoid limbo. Agata (Celeste Cescutti) lives in a village in the North East of Italy in the early 1900s. She won’t give up her hope of saving the soul of her stillborn child.
Her spiritual journey and research begin in Veneto, on Brussa beach, in a hamlet of Caorle (province of Venice), when a woman tells her about a sanctuary in an imaginary Val Dolais, which can make her miracle happen. The shoot followed Agata’s journey, continuing onto Bibione, the River Cormôr canal, and into Friuli Venezia Giulia, in particular the Nature Reserve of Bosco Baredi (also known as Selva d'Arvonchi) near Muzzana del Turgnano (province of Udine). Agata is kidnapped to be sold as a wet nurse in the 17th century Villa Mangilli Schubert in Marsure di sotto (province of Udine).
