The modern canal harbour of Pescara was designed at the start of last century, almost destroyed in WWII and then recovered for use by fishing boats, merchant ships, oil tankers and passengers. In recent years, structural works have compromised the draggability of the harbour with a reduction of activity.
The tourist port, at the centre of the Marina of Pescara, was built in the 1980s; one of the largest in Italy, it is linked to the airport, train station and motorway. The harbour extends over 250,000sqm with 22 docks, wharfs and piers and offers a 1,000-boat capacity for vessels measuring from 6 to 50 metres. All berths are equipped with water, light and ropes for anchoring to the deadweight.
