When a father breaks several bones, his estranged son must help him maintain the family ranch. The two meet to train an unwilling horse and prepare it for a cross-country competition; at the same time, they attempt to resolve the anger, hostility and rancour that has caused their estrangement for so long. The horse faces a challenging obstacle course as do the two men as they try to rebuilt the love and closeness they have lost. They are assisted in the challenge by a horse trainer, with whom the son falls in love.

The film, directed by and starring Kim Rossi Stuart, is an existential all-Italian western. The opening scenes present one of the protagonists, young Tommi (Saul Nanni), a builder specialised in construction work without scaffolding, as he hangs in his harness off the modern, colourful facades of the residential complex Monti della Breccia, on colle Salario in Rome.

Despite a conflictual relationship with his father Renato (Kim Rossi Stuart), Tommi moves in with him for several weeks when he falls in. Renato, ironically dubbed “the poor man’s Clint Eastwood”, with a passion for raising unbreakable horses, lives in the Lazio countryside, outside Tarquinia (Viterbo), in a ranch whose classic veranda resembles those in the United States.

Tommi meets Rachele (Alma Noce), with whom he has an off-on relationship, on the platform of Aprilia (Latina) train station.

The various horse-riding scenes, including that of the training of the difficult Trevor and the cross-country competition were shot at the Lancieri di Montebello centre in Rome and the 120-hectare pony centre Pratoni del Vivaro in the municipality of Rocca di Papa (Rome). The attempts to help Trevor overcome his fear of water, with the trainer Anna (Viola Sofia Betti), take place at lake Vico, in Ronciglione (Viterbo).

The scene where Tommi buys equestrian equipment takes place in a saddle-maker in Sacrofano (Rome).

Disappointed by recent events, Tommi accepts a job in Northern Europe: the scenes were actually shot in Torre a mare Posidonia and the tourist harbour of Pescara. Hearing of Renato’s accident, he lands at Rome’s Fiumicino airport and heads to the Rome American Hospital.

The flashbacks of father and son at the seaside were shot on the shore in Tarquinia.
