The WWF Oasis of Lago di San Giuliano (St. Julian Lake) is located in a special protection zone and in a Site of Community importance in the towns of Grottole, Miglionico and Matera. The area extends for about 1,300 hectares and is one of the most important wetlands in Basilicata. The variety of habitats of the Riserva favors the presence of a diverse fauna, especially in the case of ornithic species, including storks, cranes, spatulas, red herons, big white herons, avocets, Italian knights.
