Surrounded by a garden full of trees, Introd Castle in Plan d'Introd occupies a strategic position on high between the rivers of the valleys Valsavarenche and Rhêmes.
The very first nucleus of the building probably dates to the 12th century. Over time it has been enlarged and remodelled to the present-day structure: a body of residences enclosed within an outer wall laid out on a polygon with a 13th century square tower. In good weather, it is possible to see part of the mont Blanc and monte Rosa massifs from the tower.
Restored by the architect Giovanni Chevalley between 1912 and 1916, the interiors are eclectic in style with large decorated rooms and solid wood furnishings which recall the feudal architecture of Val d’Aosta. On the ground floor in particular the “hall of justice” has wooden panelling and frescoed walls.
Facing the castle is a Renaissance-era haybarn built entirely in wood with the original wrought iron portals. Connected to it is the ancient stable, known as the cascina L'Ôla, which has a façade of 5 columns, each 1.8m in diameter, and a single-sloped roof.
