Lake Piediluco is one of the most beautiful canoe arenas in Italy, indeed in Europe: an unusual lightness of water and the total absence of wind assist the flow of the crafts making it an exceptional sporting site.
Irregularly shaped, with a perimeter of approximately 13km, the lake is located at 375m above sea level and measures 19m at its deepest point. It is fed naturally by the Rio Fuscella, while two feeders have been artificially created, one linking to the River Velino and the other a channel bringing water from the River Nera. Its emissary, the Velino River, is deviated towards Marmore where, flowing into the River Nera, it forms the Marmore Waterfall.
Piediluco, which belongs to the municipality of Terni, is located in southern Umbria. A pretty fishing hamlet, it is dominated by the remains of the Rocca and the Church of St. Francis. Facing the village, on the opposite bank of the lake, is Mount Caperno, known locally as Monte dell’Eco (Echo Mountain) because it can clearly repeat an entire string of syllables.
