Artificial Lake Corbara, was formed in the 1970s with the construction of the hydroelectric reservoir of the same name and 641m-long dam on the River Tiber. Named for the hamlet of Corbara in the municipality of Orvieto (TR), it has a jagged shoreline that extends into a deep, narrow cove that stretches almost as far as Todi, with the SS 448 coasting the left bank. The lake is 30/40m deep and has a surface area of 10/13 sqkm.
Occupying a valley that begins at the Forello Gorge, the lake is part of the protected Tiber River Park which hosts several species of heron and small birds, some rare, deer and mouflons that find shelter in the park’s luxuriant vegetation.
