The Post Hotel, its annex and the Doctor Villa in Campo Tures (Sand in Taufers) form an ensemble known collectively as the Posthäuser (lit: Post Houses). They were once the heart of the community. The best-preserved building of this ensemble is known colloquially as the Doctor Villa – Villa Post. It was built in 1901 and functioned as the postal office. In the First World War the building was used as a military hospital. The young physician Dr. Anton Mutschlechner (1893–1977) established his medical practice here, in his parental home, in 1920.
Over the years, the name of this renowned general practitioner became known beyond the borders of South Tyrol. In particular, his alternative medicine treatments enjoyed wide acclaim and his circle of clients spanned nearly the whole world as a result. Wealthy people from Egypt, Syria, Morocco, Canada, Venezuela, and even New Guinea came to this manageable village in the Tauferer–Ahrntal Valley in order to be treated by him.
The Doctor Villa served not only as a personal residence and medical offices, but also provided space for the patients, whose treatment often required them to stay for weeks at a time. After Mutschlechner’s death in 1977, the villa was no longer inhabited.
