The Biblioteca Universitaria Centrale (BUC) is located in the modern Le Albere district of Trento. The building was designed by Renzo Piano and inaugurated in 2016, and is managed by the Università degli Studi di Trento whose socio-economic, legal and humanities departments use it for teaching and research.
The structure has 15 rooms in 4 buildings over 7 floors, with open shelf bookcases in wood, with 400 seats in the various rooms and the large lobby. The complex is characterized by the two cubic buildings that comprise the main rooms with the glass ceiling that illuminates the entire building with natural light.
The library is part of a green project, along with the other buildings in the neighbourhood: it has Leed energy certification and is equipped with photovoltaic panels, led lighting and a rainwater collection system.
