Inaugurated on 8 July 2013, the neighbourhood of Le Albere in Trento was designed by Renzo Piano and is an ambitious environmental requalification project which followed the decommissioning of the Michelin Italia factory located here (from 1927-1997).
Today Le Albere combines science, literature, art, history and nature: 5 hectares of parkland comprise 18 residential buildings with a total of 350 units (apartments, businesses and offices); MUSE - Museo delle Scienze di Trento; Palazzo delle Albere, the only building in the area dating to the 1500s; and the Biblioteca Universitaria (University Library), inaugurated in 2016.
A long pedestrian path joins the museum and the polyfunctional cultural centre, flanked on both sides by 4-5 storey buildings with green facades and large windows. A diagonal path, also flanked by buildings, leads to the library. Cars are not admitted to the area and may be parked in an underground garage.
