Vela Beach is the last beach in the municipality of Ancona. It is located after Portonovo Bay, under Mount Conero, and could almost be considered its outer edge; to get there you need a boat or to walk along the coast. What makes it stand out is a big white sea stack that looks like a veil; near this sea stack the beach is made up of rocks of various sizes which gradually give way to small pebbles and even gravel in some places.
From here there is a magnificent view to the north, enriched by the Church of Santa Maria di Portonovo, a gem of Romanesque architecture, and by the Bosis Tower, an ancient 18th-century sighting tower. Behind this is Monte dei Corvi, closing the bay.
