Villandro Alp is a mostly flat area of pasture that extends over 20 km2, ranging from 1,700 to 2,500m above sea level. The landscape comprises the Dolomites in the west to the Vedrette di Ries and the Zillertal Alps in the north.
The vegetation is mostly fields with scattered woods of mountain pine which become sparse above 2,000m a.s.l.
The numerous trails on the high plateau bear traces of human activity such as the little Chiesa al Morto (Totenkirchl) with ancient stations of the cross where an annual via crucis (Easter procession) takes place, and the ruins of a 16th century mine near the Neri lakes. Old mountain huts are used to host visitors and for agricultural purposes.
