On the edge of the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano, at an altitude of 94m, the Caves of Castelcivita (SA) extend for approximately 4,800m between the banks of the River Calore and the south western slopes of Monti Alburni. The caves are one of the largest speleological complexes in southern Italy and offer an evocative scenario of galleries, wide spaces and narrow tunnels carved out by karst erosion over thousands of years, while the continuing formation of stalactites and stalagmites add to this unique sight.
