Albergo delle Fate (Fairies hotel) is a hotel immersed in nature, surrounded by the tall pines and luxuriant vegetation of Piccola Sila, built during the 1930s at the heart of Villaggio Mancuso, a mountain hamlet in the municipality of Taverna (province of Catanzaro).
The idea came from Eugenio Mancuso, who used the wood from his family carpentry business that had not sold because of the 1929 economic crisis. Inspired by the mountain lodges of Alto Adige, he built entirely in wood, covering the interiors with notable tapestries made by local artisans. The hotel had 35 rooms, 2 suites and 3 apartments which could host 4 people, in addition to numerous services that were ahead of their time: a 300-seat restaurant, nursery playroom, boutique, hairdresser, laundry, tailor shop, cinema and games room. It was inscribed in 2007 as a National Historic Monument of unique architectural interest.
