Piazza Duca della Verdura in Potenza, previously known as piazzetta della Trinità, was commissioned to meet the need for new public spaces in the historic town and designated to be the food market. The project, designed by architect Luigi Brancucci and approved on 15 March 1843, transformed a pre-existing clearing into a wide rectangular area linked to via Pretoria by a staircase. Later work was carried out on the nearby building facades to provide the area with a unifying look.
