Lake Spèccheri is located in the hamlet of that name in the municipality of Vallarsa (Trento). It is a reservoir created in 1957 with the construction of the dam blocking the Leno di Vallarsa, a tributary of the river Adige. The dam is a majestic work which, at approximately 550 meters, is the third tallest in Italy. Its size makes it a striking image from both above (the Poiani area) and below (the hamlet of Spèccheri). Lake water is conveyed to the hydroelectric power plant in the municipality of Ala, which also services the city of Verona with clean energy.
The valley where the lake is located is fluvio-glacial in origin, with a central river and very steep, rocky sides in the upper part. It becomes a deep gorge in the lower part, before flowing into the Adige Valley.
