The Azienda ospedaliera universitaria San Giovanni Battista of Turin, known as Ospedale Molinette, got its name from the area where it stands, le Molinette, once an area of mills. It is part of the most imposing hospital complex in Turin. Inaugurated in 1935 by King Victor Emanuel III, it was presented at the time as a “citadel of public health”. Badly damaged during bombing in WWII, today its dozens of pavilions are connected by covered outdoor walkways and underground tunnels. Numerous additions have provided the structure with new floors and areas for storage and other activities.
