The air raid shelter in piazza Risorgimento which reopened in 1995 is one of the largest of the 40+ public shelters built by the Municipality of Turin. Built at a significant depth in concrete to provide protection from air raids, it has walls that are 80cm thick. The structure has three parallel galleries each 40m long and 4.5m wide, linked by 8 passages, at a depth of 12m, covering a surface area of approx. 700m2. The rules of conduct for bombing raids are still fixed to the walls. Closed after the war and forgotten for decades, the shelter is now open to the public for guided and didactic tours.
