Villa del Balbianello in Tremezzina (CO) has always been one of the most beautiful and romantic residences on Lake Como. It overlooks the enchanting wooded promontory on the very tip of Dosso di Lavedo, which dips into the waters of the lake creating a small peninsula.
Built in the early 18th century, it was a gathering point for intellectuals and supporters of the Unification of Italy. Every room in the Villa features a valuable collection and history waiting to be discovered. The interiors of the main building demonstrate Guido Monzino’s passion for adventure, embellished with English and French furniture from the 1600 and 1700s, Flemish tapestries, Chinese porcelain, African and Pre-Colombian sculptures and a vast collection of painted glass and views of the Lario area.
The loggia, library and map room offer a trip around the world through Monzino’s explorations and alpine and polar expeditions. The panoramic terraced garden is a jewel perched on the bays and rocks of the promontory, with the elegant 17th century loggia rising from the highest point, offering views of the landscapes of Tremezzina, the true heart of Lario, on the opposite shore.
