A historic villa in a magnificent Italian garden and a 33.000 m² centuries-old park. Villa Panza was built in the 18th century on a pre-existent baroque residence of which it conserves the plant with the “U” scheme on the Biumo hill, overlooking the city of Varese.
In 1823, the Villa has been enriched by the architect Luigi Canonica who designed the representative salon and the area of the stables and carriages’ sheds. The Villa is famous for its world-renowned contemporary art collection, a rich collection of the American art of the 1950s. In the manor spaces, works by American artists are placed side by side with fine furnishings and valuable collections of African and pre-Columbian art.
Among the artworks, at the first floor and in the former stables are set the environmental art installations by important artists like James Turrel, Maria Nordman, Robert Irwin and Dan Flavin.
The Villa is surrounded by a century-old park with an “English” design decorated with recent made land art installations.
