Located on the Colle di San Donato, the Medici Fortress is one of the most important Tuscan m
onuments of the sixteenth century, an important example of military architecture. The building, perfectly inserted in the walls, has an irregular pentagonal layout with bastions. The ramparts of the Fortress form a panoramic point over the city, the Arno valley, the Pratomagno massif and the Catenaia alp. After the last restoration, archaeological excavations have brought to light the remains of the Church of San Donato in Cremona, dating back to the year 1000.
