The Glass Museum is housed inside the early 19th century glass factory in the historic center of Piegaro (PG). It is one of the few remaining examples in Italy of pre-industrial structures for glass processing.
The building faithfully reconstructs the original factory, highlighting and enhancing the architectural structure with its chimney, melting furnace with the solidified glass for final fusion, tunnels for heat recovery, and ventilation and cooling ducts. The exhibition route runs over two storeys through several highly evocative rooms as it traces the ancient production cycle, from the arrival of raw materials to the finished product, passing through the phases of glass melting and processing, from the arrival of raw materials to the finished product, passing through the phases of glass melting and processing, manual and subsequently semi-automatic.
This deeply-embedded tradition has never been interrupted: a modern industrial plant was created, downstream of the ancient center of Piegaro, to meet the increase in production and the need for innovation, and is today the most important economic center in the area.
