Built by the Order of the Franciscans Minor, the Temple of San Fortunato is located in piazza Umberto I, in Todi (PG) at the top of a staircase, on the remains of a complex dating before 1000 C.E.. Work began in 1292 and lasted until the second half of the 15th century: it did not resume after the interruption and the church remained unfinished. An imposing Gothic bell tower stands on the side of the church. The facade, in pure Gothic-Italian style, was begun in 1415 and is incomplete: the architect died in 1458, leaving the work as it is today. There are three stylistically very different ogival portals, with the central one adorned with bundles of twisted columns with tendrils and small figures, executed with great accuracy and decorative richness; it is flanked by two niches, with a "Gabriele" and an "Annunciata". The interior dates to the end of the 13th century: it has three naves of equal height, cross vaults and polygonal apse. The crypt below, built in 1596, houses the reliquaries of the five patron saints of the city (San Fortunato, San Callisto, San Cassiano, Santa Romana, Santa Degna) and the grave of Jacopone da Todi.
