More than a station, this is a comprehensive urban building, with international style and a green heart. Work on the new hub also completed an underground train track, thereby liberating Turin entirely from this urban obstacle and allowing the transport system to reach its maximum expression: today it is modern, fast and extremely accessible and linked to important national and European stations. Porta Susa, between Corso Bolzano and the treelined Viale della Spina, has become a new meeting place and terminus for the Frecce trains in the city of “la Mole”. A steel and glass gallery (385m long and 30m wide), it is a modern and multifunctional urban nerve centre, appropriate for a metropolis in the third millennium. An innovative High Velocity hub, it represents the new approach adopted by FS Italiane (Italy’s publically owned train company) to vertically integrate transport and mobility services in the big cities. It is fully energy efficient, thanks to the photovoltaic system on its roof.
