The former della Trappa monastery is located in Sordevolo high in the Elvo Valley (BI), 1000 m above sea level. It was built in the second half of the 1700s by the Ambrosetti wool manufacturers and got its name from a community of Trappist monks fleeing the French Revolution who lived there from 1796 to 1802. Recovered by the Associazione della Trappa as part of the Ecomuseo Valle Elvo e Serra (Ecomuseo della Tradizione Costruttiva), “la Trappa” offers food, lodging (25 beds) and stabling (Ippovia del Biellese) and is used for educational activities about recovery of the Alto Elvo landscape (Alleanza Mondiale per il Paesaggio Terrazzato) and its produce (Slow Food Travel Montagne Biellesi).
