Palazzo Accolti Gil in Conversano, in the south east of Bari province, is located near the village castle. It was built towards the end of the 1500s on land donated by Caterina Acquaviva d’Aragona, mother of Count Giangirolamo II of Conversano, famous as the guercio of Puglia.
The building has a C-shaped layout with the two wings overlooking the road and the courtyard. Beneath a pediment featuring three pots of pine cones, the grand gate with the family crest opens onto this courtyard.
It is one of the oldest and best conserved buildings in this part of Apulia. The staircase leads to the main apartment on the first floor, directly to the Antenati Room which leads onto the study, the red drawing room and the dining room, all of which have frescoed cloister vaults and are perfectly conserved, furnished with antiques. The apartment, worthy of note, develops along the entire first floor and overlooks via di San Giuseppe and via del Duomo. Below these rooms are storehouses with stone barrel and cross vaults. Recently restructured apartments are on the second floor.
