Villa Negrotto Cambiaso, located in the heart of the park of Arenzano (province of Genoa) and today the town hall, dates to the late 1800s and owes its name to Marchioness Matilda Negrotto Cambiaso, its owner in the 1900s.
The original 16th century villa was given the appearance of a turreted castle at the end of the 19th century when medieval stylistic elements were very fashionable. In particular, the 26m high tower was built and Ghibelline merlons added to the palace and the tower. To the west, behind the villa, several buildings were restructured, again in medieval style, creating the concept of a medieval borgo, still connected today to the villa by a path that is very similar to a watchtower walk.
The villa is surrounded by a large park, which dates to the end of the 1800s and was designed by the architect Luigi Rovelli. The garden, which can be accessed through three different entrances, has rare plants such as a Mexican Cedar, Western Redcedar, Erythrina crista-galli, Pittosporum tenuifolium and Japanese plum-yew, in addition to the very large, more commonplace trees which include a Cedar of Lebanon inscribed in the list of monumental trees of the Region of Liguria. The park also features an art-deco style greenhouse, commissioned by the Marchioness and augurated in 1931.
