The port of Genoa is the largest and most important commercial harbour in Italy and one of the busiest in Europe. It extends from the Delle Grazie basin in the east to the modern terminals in the west. It covers 500 hectares on dry land and another 500 in the sea reaching depths of 9-15 metres, in some points even 50m.
It encompasses the Old Port which was redesigned by Renzo Piano and is today the lively cultural and tourist centre of the city.
The port has two lighthouses: the “lantern of Genoa” on the hill of San Benigno, and a smaller one used for tankers located on punta Vagno, in the residential area of corso Italia.
The port has retained its versatility, thanks to its 13 terminals equipped to welcome every type of traffic: containers, merchandise, petroleum shipping and passengers, and offers highly specialised services.
