The Republican Arsenals of Pisa, situated in the city’s ancient harbour, was a building complex used for the production and maintenance of galleys (ships) at the time of the Pisan Republic.
First documented in the 1200s, the Arsenals were converted into storehouses and weapons factories in the 1300s and used as a military fortress in the 1500s. A large portion of the complex was seriously damaged during WWII.
The remaining buildings were restored in 2015 and today present a multipurpose space of about 200sqm which is used for exhibitions, conventions and displays.
