An imposing oak tree, centuries-old and inscribed as a natural monument of national interest, stands at the centre of Villanova Sant'Antonio, near the ancient Church of St. Anthony in Fossalta di Portogruaro (Venezia).
The 16m tall oak tree has a circumference of 8.5m and an estimated age of 585, although local tradition holds that it is over 700 years old.
The monumental tree has significant natural value as the survivor of the ancient forest that once covered the territory and also important historical value as the “vicinia” – a kind of municipal advisory board – debated local community issues beneath its fronds.
