Via delle Volte, an evocative medieval street, is the axis along which “linear” Ferrara developed between the 7th and 11th centuries and decisively influenced the subsequent growth and spread of the whole city.
In via delle Volte, the development of depth was resolved architecturally with the creation of aerial passages, the “volte” that dot the street, that connect river warehouses with shops-houses in the centre.
The street features 14th and 15th century buildings and many charming alleyways that lead off it.
