Villa Revoltella park – Trieste

Description

Villa Revoltella park is located in Chiadino-Rozzol, an area of extended woodland in Trieste that covers about 50,000 sqm, almost entirely sloping ground. The only public entrance is at the top in via de Marchesetti.

The park can be divided into three main zones which feature:

1. Entrance with a notable ironwork gate, church in Carso stone by the Prague architect Kranner, pond with goldfish and turtles, gazebos, the vicarage and former stables;
2. the residence, built after 1860 by the Berlin architect Hitzig, in a simple chalet style that fits neatly into the surrounding landscape, with glass and cast-iron conservatories overlooking an Italian-style garden;
3. the staircase with a statue of Pinocchio on the fountain and a playground area with basketball court, skating rink and a range of games equipment.

A number of pathways fan out from the entrance, paved with fragments of red terracotta, interspersed with elegant flowerbeds with ground foliage, standing flowers and centuries-old tall trees. The park provides the city with a green lung, a place where it is a pleasure to wander amidst refined and luxuriant scents and admire the collection of antique roses.
