The Austrians established a barrier of steel and cement comprising fort Luserna, fort Busa Verle and Spiz Vezzena, an armoured watchtower at 1,900m a.s.l. to protect the road from passo Vezzena in Levico Terme (Trento) to Lavarone and Trento. There are still traces between Luserna and Verle of connected trenches, traps, barbed wire barriers 50 m deep, and the Basson, a hollowed-out small hill filled with machine gun positions.
