While exploring the central streets of Carrara in the pilot episode, the player comes across many famous places: piazza Alberica, the Duomo, Via Roma, Teatro Animosi, Politeama Giuseppe Verdi. The settings have been recreated digitally from photographs shot at night or dawn; real actors were involved in the production, playing themselves in an alternative recreation of their city. In the second episode, the player explores new locations in the city, which include San Ceccardo, Corso Rosselli, Piazza d’Armi, Piazza San Francesco, Via Carriona, Ponte Baroncino, Bonascola, Viale XX Settembre, Parco La Padula, Fantiscritti.

Game Over Carrara is located in the city famous as the global centre of marble with an apocalyptic and horror perspective. The game’s creator, Elvis Morelli, chose to produce a traditional graphic adventure, albeit with some contaminating modern elements, e.g. quicktime event and stealth mechanics that oblige the player to control sounds and noise to avoid detection. While the scenario is inspired by epic titles such as Myst and Riven, the game homages the typical imaginary zombie. The game unfolds in episodes. The production model is particularly interesting: the episodes are distributed free while local businesses made the production possible with their support of the work, inserting references to their activities into the game.
