Where it was filmed 'The Legend of the Christmas Witch'

The fairy-tale atmosphere of the film is largely due to the location in Alto Adige. Paola (Cortellesi) and her students live in Castelrotto, inside the Nature Park of Sciliar in the foothills of the Siusi Alps. Locations include the alleys, streets and main square of Castelrotto, aerial shots often show the tall bell tower of the Church of Saints Peter and Paul.

The Witch’s mysterious home is actually the medieval manor house, Castelletto del Lago di Monticolo, which overlooks the lake of the same name in the municipality of Appiano. The interiors of the house were, instead, shot in painter Luigi Picelli’s apartment in Villa Weiss in the historical centre of Merano.

Evil Igor lives in the woodlands of Monticolo, in a place known as capanna del cervo (Hirschutte), while the young protagonists have homes in Caldaro, Merano and Siusi allo Sciliar.

The kidnap action scenes were shot on the snowy peaks of the Siusi Alps, in the Dolomites, Europe’s largest mountain plateau, and near the steeply sloped Vernurio di Rifiano woods in Val Passiria. Additional scenes were shot on Monte Terminillo in Lazio about 100km North East of Rome.
