The Properties of Metals, written and directed by Antonio Bigini, is freely inspired by the true story of the so-called "mini-gellers": children attributed with psychokinetic powers who became research subjects for two Italian university professors at the end of the Seventies.
Elements of fantasy intertwine with the historical context, eventually co-opting a stereotypical family in central Italy. The setting is the mountainous territory of the Apennines between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, home to little Pietro (Martino Zaccara) who is able to bend metals with a touch.
Locations also included the Valmarecchia area of Tuscany, in particular the town of Case Barboni and the Petrella Massana cemetery in Sistino (Arezzo) and the woodland of Badia Tedalda. The troupe also shot in Emilia-Romagna, in Bologna, Sant'Agata Feltria and San Leo.

Italy 1970s, in a small village in the mountains. Pietro, a child raised by his widower father, a surly man with money problems, begins to manifest mysterious gifts: he can bend metal simply by touching it. An American scientist starts studying him. The experiments will lead the child towards an invisible world where the unquestionable laws of physics collide with the deepest human desires.
