Roseto Capo Spulico is a medieval borgo situated in Alto Ionio Cosentino whose name reflects its significant rose production industry in the past. The historical centre is still enclosed within a wall and includes the 14th century Church of Santa Maria della Consolazione; the Baronial Palace; the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception also known as “Santo Totaro”; the source water fountain of San Vitale; and “lovers’ alley” (vico degli Innamorati), also known as the strettela, which at 50cm width is one of the narrowest in Italy.
The medieval castle of the Swabian King Ferdinand II, the Castrum Petrae Roseti which stands on the tip of the Cardone promontory, is inscribed as a place of national cultural interest. The fortified castle, today the ethnographical museum, has a trapezoid shape and three towers, the tallest of which has merlons and accessible large reception rooms in addition to several cisterns and stables.
