The Bridge of Mary Magdalene (also known as the Devil’s Bridge) crosses the Serchio River near Borgo a Mozzano, in the province of Lucca. Legend has it that it was built by the devil, who was then tricked. Built on the orders of Matilda of Tuscany in the year 1000, the bridge was built to allow wayfarers and pilgrims to reach nearby Lucca and join Via Francigena, which would lead them to Rome.
