The Murge is a quadrangular karstic plateau that constitutes a vast sub-region located in central Apulia. Part of the Apulian Antiappennines, the highest peaks of the Murge can be found in the north-west: Torre Disperata (686m), Mount Caccia (682m), Serraficaia (673m), Mount Scorzone (668m).
The plateau is distributed mostly across the metropolitan area of the city of Bari and the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani, extending westwards into the province of Matera in the region of Basilicata and southwards into the provinces of Taranto and Brindisi.
