The Arzino River begins 1,908 m above sea level on mount Valcalda, then crosses the municipalities of Preone, Verzegnis and Forgaria, in the province of Udine, and Vito d'Asio and Pinzano al Tagliamento, in the province of Pordenone, eventually pouring into the Tagliamento river. During its approx. 30m course, it cuts longways through the Valley of Arzino, where it gets its name.
The harsh morphology of the landscape along the river’s path has forced it, over the millennia, to carve deep, narrow valleys, niches and sheer rockfaces where it falls dozens of metres forming the Anzino waterfalls.
